Courage, Persistence and Self Belief – Skills for Life

On Melbourne Cup Day 1998 Debbie was given the news that her beloved brother had committed suicide and six months later was told she had Crohn’s Disease.

In her keynote, Debbie will touch briefly on these devastating life changing situations, however prefers to focus on the more positive side of her life. Debbie talks about how she started a business in the professional speaking and recruitment industries and the lessons she learnt on the way. Debbie’s message is all about stepping out of your comfort zone, tenacity, passion, courage and mindset.

Debbie left school at the age of 16 without any formal qualifications. She feels blessed to have found herself in the recruitment, motivational and training industries, where she has been mentored and inspired by many others. Debbie believes your thoughts help mould your reality, and teaches some techniques that can be applied immediately to improve lives. She has proven this works many times herself, including keeping healthy despite the Crohn’s Disease diagnosis.

FANS

“You did a masterful job at filling in at the last minute at the EAN conference last year.  Your presentation hit home in a very personal and introspective way and your comments will be remembered for many years to come.  I couldn’t recommend you highly enough as a speaker”.  Stephanie Vizzar, Rural Funds Management Limited

I Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your presentation on Monday morning. It was refreshing to listen to a speaker who could be honest about the good, bad and ugly, who connected with her audience and whose presentation was uplifting and motivational. It was also nice to get real content as opposed to speakers who only toot their own horn, use manipulative tactics to ensure that they significantly lighten the pockets of their audience who have given both time and money to be present and then often show scant regard for the people who have come to see and listen to them, many times being downright derogatory.

I attended another function yesterday evening and was speaking to a woman who buys and sells businesses. She put together a seminar teaching others to do what she does earlier this year and was speaking to a professional speaker about her content. The speaker told her, and I’m paraphrasing, ‘you can’t tell them the truth, you have to sell them the dream’.

I’ve been pursuing my dream most of my life. I know far too many people who have given up on their dreams because they quit when stuff happened and difficulties arose, I think in part because they believed they were inferior because stuff happened and difficulties arose. It’s because of people like you who are honest about the difficulties, who are still focussed on what they must do to be successful in fulfilling their dreams that the speaking industry will grow and prosper as a viable tool for personal and corporate improvement and growth. I’m encouraged to know that the speaking industry has honest and trustworthy people who really do make a positive difference to business, organisations and communities.

It was a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to getting to know you and seeing you and Voxy Lady go from strength to strength. Debra Jarvis, Speaker, Writer, Presenter

I am still thinking of our wonderful conversation/mentoring session today.  All I can say is WOW!!!

You are amazing and I look forward to seeing your incredible business grow even more. Tima Elahjj – Director Tima Designs

“I had the privilege to hear Debbie Carr give a thirty minute talk on the loss of her brother, Gary, to suicide, at the recent ‘Women and Depression’ Conference held in Sydney. Debbie gave a very moving, eloquent and insightful speech about the lead up to her brother’s death and the aftermath of his suicide in regards to the effect it had on his immediate family, in particular Debbie. Debbie spoke bravely from the heart which had a significant impact on my understanding of what family members are left to deal with after the death of a loved one in this way. Even though I have worked for years in the mental health arena as a registered nurse and have acquired a fair degree of knowledge about suicide, this falls way short of gaining first hand knowledge from those who have been left to deal with the grief of this devastating event. I applaud Debbie for her courage and spirit to share with us the loss of her beloved brother, Gary, and commend her for her desire to share this experience with others so they can better understand the impact of suicide, which will hopefully assist in both its’ prevention and the healing process should it occur” Jane Hasler, Psychological Nurse

We would like to express our thanks for your outstanding contribution as MC at our first annual Black & White Charity Ball held at the Shangri-La Hotel. We were very impressed with how you ran the event. Your professionalism ensured the event was delivered with high standards while your enthusiasm and flair lifted the tone of the evening. Your attention to detail and keeping the program on track ensured the event ran smoothly and enjoyable for all. We look forward to working with you again next year! Christine Gan – Regional Director, Venture There

I recently undertook my mentoring session with Deb Carr and she was fabulous. She came prepared with information on myself and my business, what I had done so far and ways to improve what I was already doing. She also gave me some great ideas to move my business forward, who to approach as potential clients and some effective ways to do this. She told me of some different organisations to become involved in and sent me some valuable reading resources and ebooks. Deb was professional but friendly, warm and giving in her knowledge and expertise and very open to keeping in touch. I came away feeling motivated and empowered that I have the ability to make my business succeed. Martine Oglethorpe, The Modern Parent
